East Paydar Seismic Project, covering an area of 556 square kilometers across Ilam and Khuzestan provinces, was successfully completed within a 17-month timeframe. As part of the project, all energy seismic lines totaling 1,190 kilometers and receiver lines totaling 1,409 kilometers were cleared in accordance with the contract. This was carried out in cooperation with the National Mine Action Center, resulting in the collection and removal of 901 armed landmines from the area.
Unlike many conventional seismic projects that are implemented with the aim of discovering new oil structures, East Paydar project was based on reservoir development studies using seismic data. Accordingly, achieving the highest possible data acquisition quality was defined as the project’s top priority. This objective was successfully realized through meticulous planning and effective coordination among operational units.
Due to the region’s exceptionally high temperatures, a significant portion of the operations was conducted during nighttime hours. Furthermore, as the entire project area was located within a protected environmental zone where road construction was prohibited, most operations—including transportation and movement of both light and heavy equipment—were carried out off-road.
One of the major challenges of the project was the presence of multi-layered minefields, extending to depths of up to two meters in shifting sand dunes, a legacy of wartime conditions compounded by frequent sandstorms. Despite these hazards, the project was completed with 1,331,720 man-hours worked without any incidents.
For the first time, the entire process of obtaining permits from governmental and private entities, as well as from local landowners, was fully managed by Dana Energy’s Geophysical Services. This initiative led to the development of an internal permit calculation and payment process and the establishment of a specialized permit team in collaboration with the Legal Department.
Finally, by recording a daily production rate of 243 vibratory shots, East Paydar was recognized as one of Dana Energy’s most prominent and safest projects in its operational portfolio.
